Chocolate Buttercream Icing Like our traditional vanilla buttercream frosting, this light and fluffy chocolate buttercream frosting can be easily adapted for decorating or spreading. Perfect for spreading on top of birthday cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other treats, this homemade chocolate. It compliments so many delicious cakes and cupcakes, but my favorite is when it paired with my favorite chocolate cake recipe, chocolate cupcakes or even my white cake recipe. You can cook Chocolate Buttercream Icing using 3 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Chocolate Buttercream Icing

  1. It's of Homemade buttercream icing (see my recipe).
  2. It's of Chocolate chips.
  3. It's of Heavy whipping cream.

But seriously, it is pretty delicious on anything it touches. Place butter in a bowl and beat until creamy. Add sugar and cocoa, mixing well. Stir in milk in portions, stirring each time.

Chocolate Buttercream Icing instructions

  1. Add your chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave for an additional 30 seconds if needed.
  2. Once your chocolate is nice and smooth, let it sit for about 20 minutes or until it has cooled down to room temperature.
  3. Mix your chocolate in with your vanilla buttercream icing using your electric mixer..
  4. That's it! Enjoy!.

Gradually beat in just enough milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable. If frosting is too thick, beat in more milk, a few drops at a time. If frosting becomes too thin, beat in a small amount of powdered sugar. Add confectioners' sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, salt, and vanilla extract. Mash the butter and icing sugar together with a fork first, then switch to a wooden spoon or electric beaters if you have them.
